The Color Run!

A few months ago my sister made the fantastic suggestion that we should participate in the So Cal Color Run.

The basic idea is that it's an untimed 5k run where every 1k there is a color station where they throw color on all of the runners.

I was unable to participate this year, but at the last minute found a pinch runner and served as the official photographer instead (I didn't do a very good job and managed to grossly overexpose a good portion of my pictures):

See you next year crazy messy run and 12000 of my closest friends!

Another Re-runner

My girlfriend Sara was mentioning how hard it is to get out and be active.  It is hard.  Life happens.

Cheryl and I had started a long distance running pal 'thing' a while back to try to commit us both to running on a more regular basis.  I mentioned it to Sara who was interested.  I named it rerun and the idea is that we run to the same music on the same day and then hold each other accountable for it.

For lack of much planning time, yesterday we took the Katy Perry Pandora Station (which resulted in a bit of a random mix for my run including My life Sucks without you, All-Star and Teenage Dream.)  Sara didn't share you play list but she did successfully navigate 2.6 miles on her first day!

I have this new thing about running west from my house.  I always use to run east.  So now I don't plot my run, I just kinda go.  It's an awesome freedom to know I can do it and it seems to make the time past more quickly, so as of this moment I have no idea how far I ran, but I'm about to find out...

So thanks to the marvels of map my run I found out I ran exactly 1.5 miles (there were also two stair cases involved).  That explains why it went so quickly .:)  Still, it wasn't that long ago I couldn't run a mile without dying, so I count it a victory!

So thanks to Sara for being another motivator for getting other there everyday!

Rerun

My sister is in Michigan but that's not keeping us from rerunning together. :)

On Sunday, she told me that she had a punk rock run.  Well, Gavin took my iPod to Vegas, my cell phone was dead and I am not about to run with my iPad.  So that left me with a capella.  So it was a karaoke run.   If you were wondering what is scarier than me running, it's me running while singing.  I sang every punk rock song that came into my mind MxPx, NOFX, Ataris.

Monday, my cell phone was alive, but I couldn't find headphones so I ran to Bruno Mars and Chris Brown Boom Box Style.  Although every time someone got near me, I'd quickly lower the volume to almost inaudible.

Running is actually a privilege because my schedule is so crazy lately.  I've never wanted to run further than I had time for before.  But thanks to Cheryl for giving me the motivation to run even on a tight schedule.

Running, revisited

The last running I did was the 5k last year.  It went terribly and I was disappointed with myself and the event.  As it turns out, I had a fantastic reason for doing such a terrible job, but that's for another blog entirely.

I haven't run since.  I met a new friend whose health conscious life style inspired me (read: made me feel really really guilty).  So this week, I reintroduced myself to my running shoes and hit the trail.

I was surprised to find how much easier and more quickly I improved this time around.  I ran almost everyday this week.  I still hate it, but I hate it less and it's a relatively small time commitment for a seemingly large life benefit.

Yesterday my sister visited and we contemplated a long distance running partnership.  I could certainly use the extra encouragement!  If we go through with it, I am going to name it Project Rerun.  I have to admit that after running with Cheryl yesterday, I'm happier to have her as a long distance running partner; she's too fast for me (and kinda relentless!).
